The buzz that has been going around since last weekend is none other than the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Royal Wedding took place on a Saturday, with millions of people tuning in from all over the world.
With so much attention centered around the wedding decorations, guests and wedding procession, there is definitely one element of the wedding that plays an equally outstanding role in the day’s festivities – the music.
Weddings in particular, are prime examples that bring out the importance of classical music, and the grandeur that it brings to ceremonial events. One of the conductors present at the event also commented that the Royal Wedding was a “phenomenal chance to promote classical music”. For an event like the Royal Wedding, the selection of music was especially crucial. The music at the service consisted of well-known hymns and choral works such as Tallis’ If Ye Love Me, Schubert’s Ave Maria and Ben E. King’s Stand By Me.
Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the recipient of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Award in 2016, was one of the musicians that performed at the royal wedding. The 19 year old cellist canceled his American orchestral debut to perform for the royal ceremony when Meghan herself called to extend an invitation.
Even in this day and age, there is no question that classical music is something that has the ability to strike up sentimental feelings, transport us back to tradition and provide an elegance to the wedding procession.
One thing Vocalise has always believed in, is the atmosphere that live music creates, especially so in the case of weddings. Classical music that comes to mind when we visualize a bride walking down the aisle, which is why many brides still choose classical pieces, such as Canon in D, for their wedding processional.
Vocalise understands the need to keep up with trend and for our musicians to perform pieces that the guests recognized, thus we are constantly acquiring and arranging music for our quartets. Example, Beautiful in White, a current popular request, is a rendition of Canon in D.
We hope to help brides out there fulfill their dream wedding, pairing music by our artistes with the visual aspect of the wedding.
