On 18 May 2024, the Vocalise String Quartet (VSQ) had the honour of performing at C&V’s wedding at the RedDot BrewHouse, a unique venue distinct from the usual banquet halls.
The groom meticulously planned for VSQ to be a surprise for his bride, disguising the quartet as ‘university students’ until the day of the wedding.
Making the wedding
nothing less than perfect
The Vocalise team worked closely with the groom to ensure everything went according to his vision. Through multiple calls and detailed planning, the programme flow was customised to match his dream of a ‘Royal British Wedding.’
He entrusted us to decide the perfect part of the song for each entry—the groom, flower girl, and bride—ensuring that every moment was coordinated flawlessly with the music, creating a truly magical experience that aligned perfectly with his vision.
Rehearsals were also conducted to refine and record the chosen pieces as requested by the groom, and to incorporate any further feedback from him to ensure perfection for the special day.
The Wedding Day
On the wedding day, the Vocalise team arrived early to coordinate with the groom, rehearse cues with the string quartet and crew, conduct mic testing and sound checks to ensure perfect audio quality for the guests.
After the final preparations, the bride arrived, and the evening began.
During the solemnization, our crew expertly coordinated the entries, ensuring perfect timing as VSQ played distinct songs for each, and seamlessly faded out on cue:
Groom – Theme from New York, New York by Frank Sinatra
Flower Girl – Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder
Bride – Romantic Flight from How To Train Your Dragon

The ceremony concluded with Taylor Swift’s Lover, a special request from the groom, followed by post-ceremonial pieces.
After the solemnisation, the groom made his speech, announcing the surprise to his bride.
He revealed that the quartet on stage were not NUS students, but musicians from Vocalise.
He expressed that VSQ would be playing songs representing their journey, expressing what he wanted to convey through music rather than words.
Evening Performance
For the first set of the banquet, VSQ played a range of pieces from classical to pop, including “Largo” from Winter and Maroon 5’s “Memories.”
The second set featured a mix of Chinese songs like Jay Chou’s “告白气球” (Love Confession) and “如果可以” (Red Scarf) from the movie 月老 (Till We Meet Again), as well as older classics like “甜蜜蜜” (Tian Mi Mi), which delighted the elders.
The chosen repertoire reflected the couple’s journey and resonated with guests of all ages, from young children dancing to pop beats to older guests clapping after listening to these nostalgic tunes.
